The works of the Bard have been performed in the charming small town of Los Barriles for the past eleven years by the Marin Shakespeare Company at the annual Baja Shakespeare Festival. This year’s festival will take place from March 22nd to March 25th and will be presenting a tongue-in-cheek version of Cinderella in a British pantomime style with a touch of Baja mixed in and with lots of fun and music for both adults and kids. I don’t think this particular story and script came from Shakespeare’s quill, but it’s sure to be fun anyway, something of which I’m sure he would have approved. The performances will take place on an outdoor stage at the Rancho Buena Vista Hotel. Los Barriles has a lot to offer besides theater and great weather. There is also excellent deep-sea fishing, diving, windsurfing, hiking, biking, horseback riding, golf, and shopping. Set on the Sea of Cortez in Baja California Sur, Los Barriles lies about half way between Cabo San Lucas to the south and La Paz to the north, both of which are about a ninety-minute drive away. Also about ninety minutes away across the peninsula is the artistic community of Todos Santos. Cabo San Lucas has the art galleries, nightclubs, and surfing while La Paz has the history, whilst Los Barriles has the theater and the charm and tranquility of a small town on the beach. There are plenty of international flights to San Jose del Cabo Airport which is just forty-five minutes’ drive from Los Barriles.
