March is an excellent month to be in Los Cabos in Baja California Sur. The whales are still around and whale watching is a very popular activity right through to the end of the month; the weekly art walk around the charming galleries of San Jose del Cabo will still be taking place every Thursday evening; and the weather is still fabulous with clear sunny skies and warm comfortable temperatures. But that’s not all; there are plenty of other things going on in Los Cabos in March. From the 1st to the 7th the artistic town of Todos Santos will be holding its 2012 Film Festival and all films will have subtitles. Meanwhile, from March 1st to March 4th, Querencia Golf Club in Cabo San Lucas will be hosting the 2012 Fred Duckett Challenge Golf Tournament where world-class golf will be played for a charitable cause – the Los Cabos Children’s Foundation.
The Art Walk – San Jose del Cabo, Baja California Sur, Mexico
From November through June every year the galleries of the burgeoning art district in San Jose del Cabo open their doors from 5pm to 9pm every Thursday to welcome art lovers and those who are merely curious. A wonderful way to spend a warm evening is to stroll around the attractive area just behind the main square and church, popping into any of the many galleries to view the artwork which includes paintings, prints, photographs, sculptures, and jewelry. You may also choose to have a glass of wine while perusing the exhibits, and after the wine you may want to dine, and fortunately the neighborhood is full of excellent restaurants. The artwork on display includes works by local, national, and international artists.
Fred Duckett Challenge Golf Tournament 2012 – Children’s Foundation Los Cabos
You may be looking for a bit of winter warmth and sun, you may be looking for some beach and surf, and you may be looking for a bit of golf. You can combine it all here at the Querencia Golf club in Los Cabos with a bit of philanthropy at a golfing event which benefits the Children’s Foundation of Los Cabos. The owner, Charles Moran, donates all fees to this worthy cause called the Duckett Challenge. The tournament runs from March 1st to March 4th, 2012. The golf is world class and the camaraderie and the commitment among the participants is inspiring. This year’s event will be the sixth consecutive golfing championship at La Querencia and will feature exciting new surprises. There will also be some great live music from renowned Country performers.
Baja Shakespeare Festival 2012 – Los Barriles, Baja California Sur
The works of the Bard have been performed in the charming small town of Los Barriles for the past eleven years by the Marin Shakespeare Company at the annual Baja Shakespeare Festival. This year’s festival will take place from March 22nd to March 25th and will be presenting a tongue-in-cheek version of Cinderella in a British pantomime style with a touch of Baja mixed in and with lots of fun and music for both adults and kids. I don’t think this particular story and script came from Shakespeare’s quill, but it’s sure to be fun anyway, something of which I’m sure he would have approved. The performances will take place on an outdoor stage at the Rancho Buena Vista Hotel. Los Barriles has a lot to offer besides theater and great weather.
